Coming to Jesus With a Past
Share
Surely, we all have a past. We’ve all done things we’re not too proud of, especially things that do not glorify God. But now - are you going to dwell in the past and hold onto the hurt, or are you going to let God in? Are you going to allow Him to do the necessary construction on your heart? Are you going to let Him restore what’s been stolen?
There was a lady in the Bible who came to Jesus - where He was - even though people looked at her sideways for doing so. She had a past that everyone knew of, but she didn’t let that hold her back. She stepped into the place where Jesus was and humbled herself before Him. As she knelt at His feet, she wept, wiped her tears with her hair, kissed His feet, and poured oil on them. This was an act of faith - she came to Him on her own, no one told her she needed to. But she came, humbling herself in repentance and humility.
I’m sure she must have felt all sorts of things, especially the uncertainty of the others watching and judging her, since she was known as the woman of the city. But all of that changed once she came to Jesus.
What’s the takeaway? We may have made mistakes - some repeated more than others - but they shaped us into who we are now. If things hadn’t happened, would you have ever come to Christ? In that reflection, our past becomes testimony, a reason to give God all the glory.
May peace be with you.
