The Elevator That Didn’t Move

The Elevator That Didn’t Move

Dying to your old self has a lot to do with the renewing and transformation of your mind. In Romans 12:2, the Bible tells us: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”

This Monday, as I was stepping into the elevator, my mind was full of a thousand things. I stood there for a while before realizing… I wasn’t going anywhere. Spoiler alert: I hadn’t pressed the button.

And isn’t that how life works sometimes? We expect change to occur without making the necessary steps that contribute to that change. How can transformation happen if we do nothing to allow it?

When God is doing a new thing, it’s evident. You don’t act the same, look the same, move the same, or talk the same. Just like the caterpillar bursting from the chrysalis, you become unrecognizable.

Change is challenging, but it begins with openness. If we are His temple, surely we can allow Him to make that change within us - for His glory, so that He may use us for His will. And yet, the beauty of God is this: He always meets us where we are.

Prayer:
Father Lord, I pray that we may receive You in our hearts right now. I pray that we may be open and willing to allow You, and You alone, to come into our lives and make those changes within us. May it not be our will, but Yours. Thank You for all You’ve done and all You continue to do. In Jesus’ mighty name we pray, Amen.
