The Lord Truly Exceeds Our Expectations

I went to the dentist the other day, and the last time we spoke, they told me I’d just be coming in for one final cleaning before the year ended. I also needed some crown work, but we had been going back and forth with the insurance because they didn’t trust the location of the tooth that needed treatment. The receptionist told me she would re-submit the forms, but to expect a 4-6 week wait. In other words, it was going to be a next-year problem.
So I told myself not to expect anything - just go in, get the cleaning, and head out.
But the moment I walked in, everything felt… expedited. I checked in, said hello, and before I knew it, they were guiding me to the back. Then they said they were going to do the crown work. I stopped them, confused, and said, “No… I’m here for the cleaning.”
They replied calmly and politely, “We’ll be doing the crown.”
Immediately I felt the need to clarify, because I didn’t want them thinking I could pay out of pocket - after all I had came in completely empty-handed that day. So I asked about the insurance, reminding them that we were still waiting on approval. Still, I was grateful just to be there, even if all I received was the cleaning. The crown would’ve been the icing on the cake!
As they worked on me, I prayed in my heart and gave the Lord all the thanks I had. And then, during the procedure, April walked in and said the words I did not expect to hear: the pre-authorization had just come through - by fax - right at that moment.
Oh Lord, I was stunned.
I’ll never forget what the dentist said while drilling, after she read the approval:
“Ask, and you shall receive.”
I couldn’t speak with the tools in my mouth, but immediately I thought, “Seek and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened unto you.”
And it didn’t stop there. Not only did they move forward with the crown, but they created a porcelain one on the spot - no temporary, no delay - using the mold they had just taken. This was something I wasn’t expecting at all.
All I could do was praise God - in the chair, on the way home, and even sharing my testimony with people afterward. The Lord is faithful. He hears. He answers. And He moves at the perfect time.
“Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
For everyone that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”
Matthew 7:7–8
